Possible outcomes – your GP may ask you to come back for further appointments and monitor you before offering treatment. Your doctor might give you a diagnosis ie anxiety, depression. Referral to another service such as psychiatrist, community mental health team CMHT or talking treatments such as CBT cognitive behavioural therapy, counselling or psychotherapy ect

Having a good supportive relationship with GP is important in terms of getting the right support. If you feel you dont have this you can. Ask to see a different doctor. Ask to talk to a different type of practitioner ie nurse, specialist mental health worker, practice counselor or nurse practitioner. Ask your doctor to refer you to specialist mental health services ie psychiatrist, psychologist or CMHT.
Community support – the voluntary sector, charities, comunity organisations maybe a good source of information and support. These kinds of services are normally free or low cost. They do not provide psychiatry or prescribe meds. Can be beneficial in conjunction with a good GP.
Local minds, counseling centres, community organisations such as cruise, relate offer support such as. Talking treatments, support groups, peer to peer support, advocacy, advice services and information, arts and alternative therapies.
