Some people argue that safety behaviours maintain anxiety as a person is not challenging or dealing with the root causes of anxiety. But the fact is some people have chronic anxiety and never fully recover . It can be a useful coping strategy and develop a better quality of life particularly if a person has social anxiety and or panic disorder
The concept of developing safe places can develop sociability and more places to socialise . Thus works for me. It is another useful coping strategy.
The underpinning theory is classical ,learning by association and operant and conditioning
